The Countdown Begins!

Three more days to the launch of the iPhone.

Reports of campers waiting in line outsite AT&T's stores are surfacing. When most people would refuse to buy a $500 phone, there are core fans who would never think twice just to buy it. Undoubtedly it has a lot of features.

But it has some downsides too. Apparently, it can't send MMS (durn). And it doesn't play videos on the browser. You can't set an MP3 as a ringtone. Flash support is iffy And no java too. -sigh- And, it requires a two year commitment to AT&T. If you don't like AT&T, you're out of luck.

Guess I'll wait for the perfect Internet tablet some more.

Will these 'cons' be big enough to make the iphone a flop? Only time will tell.

How does Linspire's deal with MS affect Ubuntu

I was just wondering how the deal that Linspire entered into with Microsoft is going to affect it's projected plans to open up CNR to other distro's like Ubuntu. Does this bode well for future users who wish to legally procure restricted codecs that play for instance wmv's? Or will it be another cause for open source purists to claim betrayal.

Just a thought. Personally, I'm just glad I can simply point my repo to a cnr site and get all the codecs I need, since Philippine laws specifically disallow software patents anyway.

First Week of School

Finally. First week of school is over! Very tiring. The first few meetings are usually crucial in a class. You have to get the students' attention and hope that you can inspire them to want to learn more. Hopefully the humor would provide them with enough incentive to like the lessons.
